History of The Digital Room
The Digital Room was originally founded in late 2004, to supply large format art prints through an online medium.
Started by Company Director Tim Brennan, a keen photographer and video director, who spotting a gap in the market to supply high quality wall art, manufactured with the highest quality materials possible.
The original website sold canvas prints online, with a basic facilty to allow clients to upload the images and photos for their order.
In 2005 we added more products, starting with our premium canvas prints that were manufactured using hand made tulip wood spreader frames.
Shortly afterwards, we invested heavily in new equipment to allow us to start producing acrylic prints. This proved to be a very popular product with the profesional photographer market.
After the Christmas rush period, in January 2006, we started to experiment with MDF Block Mounted prints. We added these to our product list im March of that year, again proving to be a popular product amongst the photographers, but also the general public.
Tim Brennan remains very much hands on with the company, overseeing the transition to our new website, which has a much more sophisiticated interactive designer, to allow our clients to upload mulitple images and edit them directly in the browser.
As interior decor fashions have changed over the years, we have added further products, such as our Premium Framed prints range, a truly superb product.
We continually look at new production methods and have some exciting new products coming soon.
We will be launching our new gallery in the early part of next year, allowing some of our regular photographer clients to sell some of the stunning photos they produce.
How to Order Prints From Us
Creating fabulous artwork is easy with our interactive designer. Just follow the simple steps below:
- Step 1 - Choose the style of print you require.
- Step 2 - Choose which format you require, Landscape, Panoramic, Portrait or Square formats.
- Step 3 - Upload your images and photos from you device or a variety of online sources using our interactive designer.
- Step 4 - Edit your images using the edit tools: Crop, Enhance, Black and White, Rotate, Flip and Mirror, directly in the designer.
- Step 5 - Add your images to the web page to preview them. We have 5 room mockups that will give you a feel for how the prints will look.
- Step 6 - Add your print to the cart and checkout.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size image do I need to supply?
We prefer to get the biggest version of the image that you have, but we can do wonders with small files. Ideally we like the files to be the size you want printed and at least 150dpi, but we can sometimes use files that are the size you want printed and at 72dpi. If the quality is too low we will advise you before we go to print.
What size file can I upload?
We can currently receive up to 2gb through our interactive designer. If you have a larger file, you can send it to us on cdrom to the address above.
Alternatively you can use our free secure image transfer service at WeTransfer where you can send us up to 2.0GB. You can include some notes about your requirements, and once we recieve the file, we'll contact you to take your order.
I do not see the size I want in your 'sizes and prices guide', can you print custom sizes?
Yes, if you do not see the size you require, simply contact us and we'll be happy to help.
Do you offer discounts?
We offer discounts for 5 or more prints, but only when we are not already running a Sale offer, please email us or call for details.
Why do use wedged frames for your premium canvases?
Over time and depending on humidity canvases can sag, The reason we use wedged frames is so that should your canvas sag, you can simply tap the wedges in a little further to tighten it again.
What happens to my file once you have printed my image?
We keep all the ordered image files on our secure server at our offices, in case you want another copy in the future. We do not use them for anything else, and we will delete them if you ask us to do so.
We regularly delete the uploaded images on our web-server for security and to maintain free space for our clients.
I'm worried about giving my credit card details over the web, how else can I pay?
We currently use a payment service providers, Shopify. All credit and debit card transaction are handled by them on their secure servers, we do not see any of your credit or debit card details.
If you are still concerned about security, you can pay by sending us a cheque. However we have to wait for the cheque to clear before we can print your order.
What thickness are your Acrylic Prints?
We offer a choice of 2mm, 4mm, 6mm acrylic panels which bonded to a 3mm aluminium panel.
Do you ship worldwide?
We are happy to ship your print worldwide, email us with the destination details for a shipping quote.
Which delivery company do you use?
We currently use Interlink Courier for our overnight deliveries.
If you would like to track your shipment, then send us an email enquiries at thedigitalroom dot co dot uk and we'll send you the tracking information.
How soon will I get my print?
We have a current turnaround time of 5 - 10 working days, depending on your chosen product. We use an overnight courier, so your print could be on your wall within 6 days.
I'm in a rush and need to get my print as quick as possible, can you help?
You can use our Rush turnaround service, which means your print will ship 2 - 3 working days after order, this is dependent on how busy we are. Contact us and we can discuss it further.
How deep are your canvas print frames?
We offer 2 types of frames, our standard frame is 1.5" deep and we hold 8" - 40" in stock, our premium hardwood frames are 1.75" deep, but these are made to order and depending on how busy our supplier is, may take 14 days to arrive here.
How do I care for the print?
If you would like a copy of our print care leaflet just email us and we'll send you one.
What thickness are your MDF Block Mounts
We use 18mm thick MDF for our block mounts.
We can supply them on different thicknesses but these need to be quoted as custom jobs. Please email us for more info.
Why do you laminate?
We laminate all mdf blockmount & canvas prints to help protect and prolong the lifespan of your artwork. Without the laminate, one scuff and your print would be ruined.
A lot of the other print companies do not do this or they charge extra.
I only have a hard copy of my photo; can I still have it printed?
Yes, if you post the photo to us including a note of your contact details and the size and any effects that you may require, we can scan it in for you. We will return the original to you with your order.
We do recommend that you use a 'board backed' envelope to prevent damage in the post, and also use registered post in case it goes missing.
Who designed your website?
The Digital Room's website is designed and maintained inhouse by our web design team. We also undertake web design for other companies, email us if you are interested in more information.
